SmarterSafer, a national coalition of taxpayer advocates, environmental groups, insurance interests, housing organizations and mitigation advocates, is urging Congress to reform the dysfunctional National Flood Insurance Program.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provides critical flood coverage to more than five million home and business owners across the country but has cost taxpayers $36 billion since 2005 and is in desperate need of reform. The NFIP has been extended seven times since September 2017 with no long-term reauthorization and no reforms; Congress must reform the broken program to save taxpayers billions and safeguard the currently unsustainable NFIP for years to come.
